ROLE SUMMARY
This position will be responsible to provide HSE site support to site personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, monitor, and support all aspects of TruGrid’s Health Safety and Management System (HSMS) to ensure compliance with applicable provincial and other regulatory requirements. This may include the following:
- Lock-out/Tag-out, Industrial Hygiene Monitoring, PPE, Hazard Analysis and Communication, Emergency Action Planning, Hot Work, Confined Entry, Respiratory Protection, and all HSE related to projects or field activities
- Champion the implementation and maintenance of Health, Safety, Environment programs to meet Ontario Certificate of Recognition (COR), as well as mandated customer / project requirements.
- Acts as the first point-of-contact for health, safety and environmental inquiries and incident reports.
- Provides guidance to team members on health, safety, and environmental matters, and escalates inquiries where appropriate
- Coordinates health, safety and environmental activities including but not limited to attending JHSC committee meetings
- Develop emergency response procedures and business continuity planning activities
- Research environmental, health and safety matters; provide findings and recommendations.
- Maintains and assists with the creation of environmental, health and safety documentation including but not limited to plans, processes, forms, logbooks, and procedures.
- Support construction activity teams (Projects and O&M) by creating, distributing, verifying, and maintaining documentation such as work instructions, checklists, training materials
- Assists in the identification and analysis of trends. Communicates observations and provides suggestions for incident reduction measures
- Support various aspects of new initiatives rolled out within TruGrid’s HSMS to meet company objectives
- Develop specialized project safety plans, policies, job safety analysis, safe work practices, conduct hazard / risk assessments, incident investigation as required.
- Provide support and ensure all employees and contractors comply with established HSE policies and programs.
- Travel to the various customer/project sites for project meetings, audits, and incident management as required.
- Liaise with Canada and USA’s HSE Teams and provide support on ongoing company initiatives.
- Ability to learn and work in a constantly changing work environment
- Conduct risk assessments and consequently ensure that preventive/corrective measures are implemented and enforced by local management.
- Assist with the development and preparation of safety communications (e.g., bulletins, safety advisory memo).
- Coordinate and conduct all HSE training where applicable, including the development of training materials as required.
- Conduct and maintain documentation for HSE Audits, as well as participate in all HSE Audits conducted by internal and external auditors. (i.e., corporate, client/customer, and government agencies).
- Maintain, update, and develop Job Hazard Analysis (JHA/JSA).
- Lead and participate in Incident Investigation / Root Cause Analysis including reporting and management of all documents.
- Attend all HSE meetings as stipulated and scheduled with clients / customers, contractors, vendors, and site crews as applicable.
- Maintain positive and proactive relations with all company and contract personnel, clients, and regulatory agencies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat are essential.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to influence stakeholders
- Knowledge and understanding of WSIB legislation would be an asset
- Demonstrated ability to train, coach, evaluate, and improve others
- Degree, diploma or certificate program from a post-secondary and accredited institution in environment, health, and safety would be an asset.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate options, solutions, and exercise judgment in making sound decisions.
- Self-driven, discreet, diligent with great attention to detail.
