Human Resources Administrator

About The Firm

The Law Offices of James L. Arrasmith, A.P.C. is a dynamic, fully remote California law firm headquartered in Fair Oaks, CA. We serve clients across a broad range of practice areas — including family law, landlord-tenant, civil litigation, estate planning, real estate, bankruptcy, personal injury, civil rights, appeals, and tribal law. Our team is fast-moving, AI-integrated, and holds itself to a high standard of excellence in everything we produce.

About The Role

We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented HR Administrator to support the firm's growing team. This role sits at the intersection of human resources and law firm operations — you'll manage the full employment lifecycle from recruiting and onboarding through compliance, documentation, and offboarding. You'll work directly with firm leadership and play a key role in maintaining the people infrastructure that keeps our practice running at its best.

What You'll Do

  • Manage end-to-end hiring workflows: job postings, applicant screening, interview coordination, and offer letter drafting
  • Conduct first-round phone screens and prepare candidate evaluation summaries for attorney review
  • Draft, maintain, and update HR documents including offer letters, duty statements, PIPs, personnel action notices, and employment agreements
  • Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes for staff across all roles (attorneys, paralegals, support staff, contractors)
  • Ensure compliance with California employment law, including wage and hour regulations, classification requirements, and mandatory disclosures
  • Maintain personnel records and HR documentation in the firm's document management systems
  • Administer and track PTO, benefits enrollment, and employee status changes
  • Support firm leadership on sensitive HR matters including disciplinary actions and terminations
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of firm HR policies and the employee handbook

Required

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of HR experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Strong working knowledge of California employment law (wage/hour, at-will employment, classification, leave laws)
  • Exceptional written communication — you produce clean, accurate documents without being asked twice
  • High proficiency with technology; comfort learning new platforms quickly
  • Discretion and sound judgment when handling confidential employee information
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment with minimal supervision

Preferred

  • Experience supporting legal staff hiring (paralegals, attorneys, law clerks)
  • Familiarity with PracticePanther, Slack, OpenPhone, Adobe Sign, Dropbox, or Otter.ai
  • HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent)
  • Experience drafting 1099 contractor agreements and classifying workers under California law

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Remote-first work environment
  • Health benefits
  • Paid time off

Compensation

The base pay range for this role is $29 – $36 per year.
