Job Summary
Under the supervision of the COO, The Human Resource Coordinator will perform administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the Charter School's human resource department. The HR Coordinator should display remarkable conflict management and decision-making skills with a solid understanding of employee relationships, staffing management, employment laws, and payroll and benefits administration. This role provides administrative support to the human resource function, including record-keeping, updating policies, file maintenance and HRIS entry. This position will also serve as the Charter's Title IX Coordinator.
Payroll Processing:
- Process and review bi-weekly payroll for all employees
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws
- Maintain payroll records and reports; respond to employee payroll-related inquiries
- Prepare payroll journal entries and coordinate with the finance team
- Process wage garnishments, tax withholdings, and other deductions
Human Resources:
- Assist in onboarding new hires, including processing background checks, verifying documentation, and coordinating orientation
- Maintain and update employee records in HRIS and personnel files
- Support benefit administration including enrollments, terminations, and open enrollment
- Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files.
- Help ensure compliance with HR policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ACA)
- Assist with employee relations tasks such as tracking disciplinary actions or performance evaluations
- Submits online investigation requests and assists with new-employee background checks.
- Ensures school staff maintain active and updated clearances.
- Coordinate interviews between candidates and hiring managers.
- Attend job fairs, trade schools, and community events to support recruitment efforts.
- Generate HR reports and support audits as needed
Skills
- Strong knowledge of human capital management principles and practices.
- Proficiency in HR software systems
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with employees at all levels.
- Solid understanding of project management methodologies as they relate to HR initiatives.
- Familiarity with data collection methods and analysis for informed decision-making in HR practices.
- Experience in recruiting methodologies and talent acquisition strategies is highly desirable.
- Ability to navigate social media platforms for employer branding and recruitment purposes.
- Comfortable with multitasking and prioritizing tasks without guidance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Time management expertise to endure tasks are completed in a timely manner throughout the day.
- Results driven, persistent-able to self-direct and work independently showing initiative, while seeking guidance when appropriate.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field preferred
- 3+ years of experience in payroll processing and providing general HR support
- Solid understanding of HR employment laws.
- Experience with ECCA is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications:
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or PHR (Professional in Human Resources) certification
Knowledge of benefits administration and HR compliance standards
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
