Reporting to the SVP, People, the HR Director is a strategic and operational partner responsible for helping build a scalable, compliant, and people-entered HR infrastructure across the organization. This role works closely with the SVP, People to design and implement HR systems, policies, and processes that support organizational growth while ensuring strong employee engagement and risk management.
In addition to leading HR operations and programs, the HR Director will serve as a trusted HR Business Partner to managers and employees, guiding leaders through performance management, employee relations, leave administration, and organizational change. This role balances infrastructure building with hands-n employee support, ensuring that HR programs are both scalable and responsive to the needs of the workforce.
Key Responsibilities
HR Strategy & Infrastructure
- Partner with the Chief People Officer to design and implement a scalable HR operating model across the organization.
- Build and standardize HR policies, processes, and documentation to support growth and compliance.
- Lead implementation and optimization of HR systems, workflows, and operational processes.
- Establish clear frameworks for performance management, employee lifecycle management, and manager support.
- Partner with leadership to support organizational design, workforce planning, and change management initiatives.
HR Business Partner Support
- Serve as a trusted advisor to managers on employee relations, performance management, coaching, and team development.
- Lead and support performance improvement plans (PIPs), disciplinary actions, and complex employee relations matters.
- Guide managers through sensitive employee conversations, ensuring consistency and legal compliance.
- Support leaders in building high-performing teams through thoughtful management practices and HR partnership.
Leave Administration & Employee Support
- Lead complex leave of absence conversations including parental leave, disability, and state leave programs.
- Partner with managers to plan leave coverage and ensure smooth employee transitions before and after leave.
- Ensure all leave programs are administered consistently and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- Serve as a compassionate and knowledgeable resource for employees navigating leave and workplace accommodations.
HR Operations & Compliance
- Ensure HR policies and practices comply with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Oversee HR documentation, investigations, and employee records management.
- Maintain clear and defensible processes for employee lifecycle events including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and off-boarding.
- Support HR audit readiness by maintaining documentation and standardized processes.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and mentor HR team members, ensuring clear ownership of HR processes and programs.
- Build strong internal HR capabilities by providing coaching and development to HR staff.
- Establish clear HR workflows and accountability across the HR function.
Culture & Employee Engagement
- Help foster a culture of trust, accountability, and inclusion across the organization.
- Support employee engagement initiatives that strengthen communication and connection across teams.
- Partner with leadership to ensure organizational values are reflected in day-to-day management practices.
What You’ll Bring
- 8–10+ years of progressive HR experience, including experience in HR Business Partner or HR leadership roles
- Proven ability to partner closely with senior leadership to build HR programs and infrastructure
- Strong experience managing employee relations, performance management, and complex workplace conversations
- Deep knowledge of leave administration (FMLA, state leave programs, disability, parental leave, etc.)
- Experience supporting managers with PIPs, investigations, and employee relations issues
- Demonstrated ability to build scalable HR processes while remaining hands-on with employees
- Strong knowledge of employment law and HR compliance best practices
- Experience overseeing HR systems such as HRIS, ATS, payroll, and benefits platforms
- Excellent judgment, communication skills, and ability to navigate sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy
- Bachelor’s degree required
Location: This role will be hybrid in Midtown, Manhattan with 1 -2 days in the office each week.
What Success Looks Like in This Role
Within the first year, the HR Director will:
- Help establish a scalable HR infrastructure and operating model
- Become a trusted advisor to managers across the organization
- Strengthen processes for leave management, employee relations, and performance management
- Ensure HR policies and programs are consistent, compliant, and well-documented
- Build strong relationships with employees and leadership while maintaining HR rigor
Compensation Range: The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $150,000.
