Key Responsibilities

Benefits Administration

  • Manage employee benefit programs including health, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), EAP and ancillary benefits.
  • Serve as benefit expert and liaison between employees and providers.
  • Coordinate open enrollment and new hire benefits onboarding.
  • Foster strong working relationship with 3rd party benefit administrators, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all federal and state benefit regulations.
  • Develop and maintain an accessible, user-friendly educational database where employees can easily find up-to-date videos, guides, and resources about our benefits programs.
  • Identify and implement innovative, low- or no-cost benefit programs that appeal to key demographics in our workforce and serve as tools for attracting diverse talent.
  • Review payroll deductions and monthly benefit billing for accuracy; process adjustments or refunds as needed.

HR Operations Support

  • Oversee administration of the random drug testing program.
  • Cross-train and provide backup support for onboarding and offboarding employees
  • Cross training and provide backup support for Recruiting Coordinator
  • Support the development of standardized HR processes and assist in building a comprehensive HR operations manual for each key role·
  • Serve as secondary HR contact, partnering with Safety Department to ensure workplace injury and vehicle accident requirements are followed
  • Audit and maintain HR systems and ensure accuracy of personnel documentation.
  • Assist with payroll coordination, timekeeping accuracy, and compliance reporting as needed
  • Prepare routine HR reports and support internal and external audits as needed
  • Answer, screen, and route incoming HR-related calls professionally and efficiently.
  • Participate in training, safety, and professional development efforts.

Professional Growth & Development

  • Take ownership of your development through mentorship and hands-on exposure to HR leadership, compliance, and strategic planning.
  • Proactively engage in projects that build decision-making, communication, and operational leadership skills.
  • Gain visibility into long-term HR planning and organizational development initiatives to understand the broader impact of HR.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and pursue self-directed learning aligned with evolving HR priorities and departmental needs.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in HR or SHRM certification required; Bachelor’s degree a plus
  • 3–5 years of experience as an HR Generalist with a strong benefits administration background
  • Confident public speaker with strong group presentation skills.
  • Excellent customer service, conflict resolution, and active listening skills.
  • Analytical mindset with proficiency in research and data interpretation.
  • Solid understanding of multi-state employment laws and HR compliance.
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Adobe PDF tools.
  • Quick to learn and navigate third-party and proprietary HR/benefits platforms.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, with professional translation and editing abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting a growing, multi-location organization.
  • Familiarity with industries such as landfill operations, engineering, construction, or environmental science.
  • Notary Public certification.
