Position Overview

The Missoula Housing Authority is seeking a dedicated and skilled Human Resources Generalist to join our team in Missoula, MT. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing various HR functions, including payroll assistance, benefits administration, and compliance. This position requires a high level of organizational and coordination skills, along with the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

Essential Job Functions

  • Payroll Assistance: Support the payroll process to ensure timely and accurate compensation for employees.
  • Employee File Maintenance: Assist with the maintenance and updating of employee files to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Insurance and Benefits Coordination: Liaise with insurance and benefits agencies as needed and assist employees with information about their benefits. Assist in the development and execution of employee benefit plans/policies
  • 457(b) Administration: Administer the company’s 457(b) program, ensuring compliance and accuracy in contributions and records.
  • Will play a vital role in recruitment, onboarding of new employees and contracted staff and offboarding of departing employees.
  • Serves as a resource to employees and leadership with Human Resources related topics and issues when needed
  • Will work to facilitate excellent employee relations when needed and will be capable of dealing with both pleasant and unpleasant situations
  • Conduct research on personnel programs and policies and make recommendations for areas of improvement.
  • Maintain knowledge and compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technology in all areas of human resources.
  • Support talent management initiatives to foster employee development and retention.
  • May be other duties added by management as needs adjust and grow.

The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate, finger, handle or feel office equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read, interpret and analyze data and information; use math and mathematical reasoning; analyze and solve problems; observe people and situations; learn and apply new information; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions; work under deadlines and with changing priorities and interact with managers, clients, representatives of other public, private and social service organizations, volunteers, contractors, employees, the public and others encountered in the course of work. This position requires use of standard office equipment, including personal computers, calculators, copying machines, multi-line telephones, and fax machines. This position may require travel and driving.

Qualifications:

3-5 years of HR experience, strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices, and excellent communication and organizational skills. Experience with ADP and Montana State Fund preferred.
