Coffee for the Soul is a growing coffee shop and restaurant company with 18 locations and a continued expansion plan.
We are seeking a bilingual, proactive, and highly organized Human Resources professional to manage key HR processes in a multi-location and multi-state environment.
Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist will work directly with the Human Resources Manager and will be responsible for managing employee relations, onboarding, compliance, benefits, documentation, investigations, discipline, Workers’ Compensation, OSHA, and general Human Resources operations.
This position requires the ability to analyze situations, interpret policies, identify risks, recommend appropriate actions, and guide managers with minimal supervision.
Recruiting will not be the primary responsibility of this position, but the Generalist must be able to support interviews, candidate selection, and onboarding when business needs require it.
This position will begin as a temporary full-time assignment with the possibility of becoming permanent based on performance, business needs, and CFS Coffee approval. Permanent employment is not guaranteed.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage onboarding processes in ADP Workforce Now and ADP TotalSource.
- Review and maintain I-9, E-Verify, and employee file documentation.
- Manage employee questions and processes related to benefits, COBRA, PTO, and leaves.
- Evaluate employee relations matters and recommend actions to the Human Resources Manager.
- Conduct internal investigations, including interviews, evidence review, and preparation of findings.
- Prepare progressive discipline, written warnings, PIPs, and corrective action recommendations.
- Interpret policies and guide managers on consistent application.
- Coordinate administrative offboarding processes.
- Manage Workers’ Compensation, OSHA, work restriction, and return-to-work documentation.
- Maintain HR reports, trackers, audits, and compliance controls.
- Identify documentation inconsistencies, compliance risks, and process improvement opportunities.
- Support recruiting activities when needed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of personal, medical, compensation, and disciplinary information.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- Required experience in foodservice, restaurants, hospitality, or a related industry.
- Required experience in multi-location and multi-state organizations.
- Experience with ADP TotalSource, ADP Workforce Now, I-9, and E-Verify.
- Experience in employee relations, investigations, discipline, Workers’ Compensation, OSHA, and benefits administration.
- Working knowledge of FLSA, ADA, Title VII, the Illinois Human Rights Act, and the Paid Leave for All Workers Act.
- Experience maintaining employment records, HR documentation, and compliance files.
- Ability to analyze situations, exercise professional judgment, and recommend appropriate actions.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, manage multiple priorities, and follow matters through to completion.
- Fluent written and verbal English and Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Connecteam, Toast, Restaurant365, or SharePoint.
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent certification.
