Position Summary

The HR Generalist supports day-to-day HR operations, including payroll processing, benefits administration, HRIS maintenance, workforce records, compliance tracking, and the consistent application of organizational policies. This role ensures that employees, interns, volunteers, and independent contractors are effectively recruited, supported, developed, and retained while maintaining compliance with labor laws and organizational policies. This role balances day-to-day HR coordination and operational support in a lean, relationship-centered environment. The HR Generalist will be organized, detail-oriented, solution focused, and driven by the Dempsey Center’s mission.

The HR Generalist provides guidance and support to managers and the workforce.

Key aspects of the role include:

Recruitment & Talent Management

· Coordinate recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts.

· Support talent acquisition processes and recommend improvements.

· Manage employee onboarding and orientation programs.

· Support career development, performance management, and professional growth initiatives.

Employee, Volunteer and Contractor Relations

· Foster positive workforce relations and a respectful workplace culture.

· Provide HR guidance to managers and team members regarding workplace issues.

· Support workplace investigations and conflict resolution as needed.

· Support workforce recognition and engagement efforts.

Compensation, Benefits & HR Administration

· Administer employee payroll, benefits, leave programs, and HRIS systems.

· Assist with compensation administration and salary benchmarking initiatives

· Maintain accurate personnel records and HR reporting.

· Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, and internal policies.

Compliance & Risk Management

· Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

· Support policy updates, maintain the employee handbook, and coordinate required training.

· Support risk management, safety, and workplace compliance initiatives.

· Ensure confidentiality and appropriate handling of sensitive employee information.

Training & Organizational Development

· Coordinate employee training, onboarding education, and learning initiatives.

· Support change management and organizational effectiveness efforts.

Qualifications and Skills

· Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related professional work experience highly preferred.

· SHRM-CP certification is preferred; equivalent HR certification or relevant experience will also be considered.

· Minimum of 5 years progressive human resource experience

· Highly organized with strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.

· Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.

· Outstanding communication and people skills are essential including group presentation.

· Ability to identify practical improvements to internal systems and processes while balancing current needs, future priorities, and budget considerations.

· Skilled in coaching and supporting employees and managers; visible, approachable, and able to serve as a trusted resource.

· Demonstrated experience supporting change, improving efficiency, and working effectively within budget constraints in a resource-conscious environment.

· Demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, and the ability to discuss ideas thoughtfully and respectfully.

Pay: $63,000.00 - $73,000.00 per year
