As the Human Resources Manager at Heart of West Michigan United Way, you will oversee daily HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits, leaves, and employee relations. You will manage staff performance evaluations and implement training programs to enhance employee development. Your responsibilities will also include maintaining HR policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations.

You will act as a trusted advisor to management on HR-related issues, providing guidance on conflict resolution and talent management. Additionally, you will analyze HR metrics to identify trends and propose data-driven solutions. Regularly communicating with employees, you will nurture a culture of transparency and engagement.

To be successful as the Human Resources Manager, you will need exceptional interpersonal skills to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization. Strong problem-solving abilities are essential, as you will navigate complex employee issues and develop effective solutions. Your empathy and active listening skills will be crucial in understanding employee concerns and fostering a supportive environment. You should possess excellent organizational skills to manage multiple HR initiatives simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary for articulating policies and fostering open dialogue among employees. Additionally, a solid understanding of labor laws and regulations is vital to ensure compliance and mitigate risks. Finally, a forward-thinking mindset will empower you to innovate and drive HR strategies that align with our mission of community impact.

SCHEDULE: This position works a hybrid schedule, which requires a minimum of 2 days a week in the office. The in-office days are determined by department needs and direct supervisor. This position has a flexible schedule between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm. Occasional work outside of normal business hours is required and is determined by the needs of assigned projects, meetings, or events. This position works 7.5 hours Monday - Friday during non-summer business hours.

Some knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management or equivalent field of study from an accredited college or combination of experience and education.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources, preferably as a manager or generalist.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
  • Experience in Applicant Tracking Systems, payroll and HRIS.
  • Strong understanding of employment law, including: FLSA, ADA, FMLA, ESTA etc.
  • Must possess strong attention to detail with exceptional problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be reliable with time sensitive deadlines and tasks.
  • Exercise a high level of confidentiality.
  • Works well under pressure and adaptable to change.
  • Must be able to build trusting relationships with people at all levels within the organization.

Salary Statement: The typical offer range for this role is from minimum to midpoint, with the midpoint representing the average pay for this in a market scope. Please note that this range represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade for which this position belongs to. The salary offer considers a variety of factors relevant to this position, which includes knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary range for this role is $55,000-$65,000.
