Job Summary
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on HR Director to lead our HR functions during a critical multi-state expansion over the next 5-10 years. Reporting to the President/Owner, you will shape our workforce by recruiting and pipelining top Class A CDL drivers, evolving retention efforts, managing HR legal compliance, and overseeing lite social media/marketing efforts. This role requires ambition, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering value in a fast-paced, small company poised to growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruiting: Develop and execute strategies to attract & pipeline high-caliber Class A CDL drivers, & other positions as needed; manage multi-state job postings, candidate sourcing, virtual interviews, and onboarding as growth occurs.
- Retention and Employee Engagement: Create programs to maintain a motivated workforce, reduce turnover, and reinforce a culture of accountability across sites through initiatives like performance reviews, training, and face to face team-building.
- Social Media and Branding: Manage company social media (e.g., LinkedIn, X, Meta, Instagram) to promote job openings, highlight our culture, and build Blue Ox’s reputation as a top trucking employer; develop consistent branding for recruitment materials and external communications.
- HR Operations: Oversee payroll (In time), benefits administration (phased with growth), and compliance with federal (e.g., FMCSA, OSHA) and state regulations; set up multi-state payroll and HR systems for new sites.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with leadership to align HR and branding strategies with business growth, including workforce forecasting for Minnesota, with potential expansion in other states; prepare for benefits rollout (health insurance at 51+ employees).
- Light Marketing: Support small-scale marketing efforts, such as creating content for job boards, newsletters, social media or FedEx Ground partnerships, to enhance visibility and attract talent across states.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field (Master’s or HR certification like SHRM-PHR preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role; experience in trucking, logistics, or multi-state small/growing companies strongly preferred.
- Expertise in multi-state recruiting, retention, and compliance (e.g., MN, TN, or other state employment laws, FMCSA regulations for trucking); experience setting up HR operations in new states a plus.
- Proficiency in social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, X, Meta, Instagram) and branding; familiarity with tools like Canva or Hootsuite is a plus.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills, with a drive to achieve goals and add value in a dynamic environment.
- Comfortable with HR software (e.g., Rippling, etc.) and multi-state payroll systems; adaptability to handle ambiguity during expansion.
- Must pass a background check and demonstrate a commitment to safety and results.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000 annually, based on experience and skills in multi-state HR, recruiting, retention, creating policies from scratch, social media, branding & legal compliance.
- Performance-based bonuses tied to recruitment, retention, and expansion metrics. (Implemented after 6 months)
