The job role:

Principal HVAC are a well-established modern, progressive company, providing a professional and efficient Air Conditioning and Ventilation service to our Clients throughout the UK & ROI.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Design Engineer to join our busy Design team! As HVAC Design Engineer you will work alongside our Project & Estimating teams supporting and providing a first-class Technical Design service.

This specific role will provide an experienced professional the responsibility, through design focused workings, to allow for safe and compliant installations on site. Ultimately, your expertise in design will be instrumental in shaping the success of projects and the satisfaction of our customers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Using AutoCAD/Revit, design and develop energy efficient systems for Air Conditioning, Ventilation, Air Source Heat pumps, Chillers and Plumbing which meet client requirements
  • Collaborate with Project managers, estimating team, and contractors to gather necessary information for accurate designs, supporting with additional detailing as required for specific projects
  • Prepare accurate engineering calculations, drawings, schematics and specifications
  • Develop and maintain solid relationships with customers, suppliers, manufacturers and contractors to facilitate business and customer needs
  • Collaboratively work to identify and solve any issues or problems in engineering design
  • Review and identify possible value engineering solutions on live contracts
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant construction and industry legislation, in particular Building Regulations and Fire Rated Ductwork EN1366, DW144 Specification for sheet metal ductwork, DW145 fire damper guide, EN378 refrigeration systems and heat pumps safety and environmental requirements
  • Develop control strategies, stand-alone or integrated with 3rd party controls
  • Ensure all designs are focused on reducing carbon footprint
  • Communicate with the delivery department on new and current projects, ensuring clarity on scope of works
  • Produce technical submittal for approval by client/consulting engineers
  • Assist with delivery of internal training events
  • Prioritise workload to ensure that deadlines are met
  • Prepare and present designs and concepts at regular design review meetings, ensuring clear and transparent communication
  • Review and check vendor documentation for mechanical compliance with project specifications
  • Ensure any design risks are considered and prepare design risk assessments. Communicating risks to appropriate others
  • Ensure good relations and communication with all members of the team, providing excellent customer care in an efficient manner.

Experience & Qualities

  • Proven prior experience working on mid-large-scale construction and mechanical engineering projects in a ‘HVAC Design Engineer’ capacity
  • Strong technical design skills and the ability to visually communicate ideas quickly and effectively
  • Competent in the use of 3D solid modelling software such as Revit MEP and Fabrication / Navisworks / Invertor
  • Proactive approach to technical projects, demonstrating good analytical and design problem solving skills
  • Experience with HVAC Calculations, Modelling/Drawings
  • A positive and confident approach with good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team, all to agreed deadlines
  • Ability to make decisions and problem solve
  • Excellent attention to detail and organised, with the ability to plan
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Reliable, honest and pleasant to work with

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £28,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
