iGCSE Science Tutor (Dyscalculia-Friendly)

We’re looking for a calm, highly structured online iGCSE Science tutor with strong experience supporting highly dyslexic learners. The goal is to help the student build confidence, close gaps, and improve exam performance through dyslexia-friendly teaching, explicit exam technique, and predictable lesson routines.

Session schedule

• 1:1 online sessions
• Mondays or Wednesdays after 5:30pm, Tuesdays at 6.15pm (UK time)
• Frequency: to be agreed (weekly or fortnightly)
• Session length: 60 minutes preferred

Key responsibilities

• Deliver structured, dyslexia-friendly iGCSE Science tuition tailored to students pace and needs
• Teach how to decode exam questions (command words, key information, common traps)
• Break down complex concepts into clear, sequential steps with frequent checks for understanding
• Use multi-sensory methods: visuals, diagrams, dual coding, retrieval practice, and guided practice
• Build and maintain a simple revision plan that is realistic and sustainable
• Provide brief post-lesson feedback (what was covered, what went well, next steps)
• Set manageable homework/retrieval tasks that don’t overload working memory

Essential experience & skills

• Proven experience tutoring iGCSE Science
• Strong understanding of dyslexia and how it impacts reading speed, working memory, sequencing, and processing
• Ability to adapt materials: simplified language, chunked instructions, accessible formatting
• Calm, encouraging manner; confidence-led teaching style
• Strong exam technique knowledge (mark schemes, required keywords, exam timing strategies)
• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable teaching online

Desirable

• Teaching qualification (QTS/PGCE) or equivalent tutoring track record
• Experience with additional neurodivergence (ADHD/autism/anxiety)
• Familiarity with assistive tech (text-to-speech, coloured overlays, dyslexia-friendly fonts)
• Safeguarding training (or willingness to complete)
