NYC law firm is seeking an attorney with at least three years of experience in family-based immigration and removal defense.
Duties:
- Represent clients in Immigration Court, USCIS, and the BIA.
- Represent clients in family-based immigrant visa petitions.
- Prepare and prosecute affirmative and defensive asylum matters.
- Manage a caseload of removal defense cases
- Prepare and litigate applications for relief from removal, including Cancellation of Removal, Adjustment of Status, Asylum, Withholding of Removal, Convention Against Torture (CAT), and other waivers.
- Prepare motions and appeals for removal hearings and USCIS.
- Work with clients to prepare affidavits for applications for asylum, U visas, VAWA, and waivers of inadmissibility (USCIS Forms I-212, I-601, and I-601A).
- Perform legal research and submit briefs before the Immigration Courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), and USCIS.
Requirements:
- Must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and must be admitted and in good standing in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Must be fluent in Spanish
- Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Experience writing affidavits for immigration waivers.
- Ability to handle a fast-paced and demanding calendar
- Strong litigation skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases simultaneously
