- An Import Clerk manages the entire process of bringing goods into a country, handling logistics, paperwork, and customs compliance from start to finish, including preparing documents (invoices, permits, certificates of origin), coordinating with freight forwarders, tracking shipments, calculating duties/taxes, and ensuring smooth customs clearance to avoid delays and penalties, working for freight forwarders or importers.
- Key Responsibilities
- Documentation: Prepare, process, and verify import documents like bills of lading, invoices, permits, and certificates of origin.
- Customs Compliance: Ensure adherence to import regulations, tariffs, and trade laws; facilitate customs declarations.
- Coordination: Liaise with overseas agents, suppliers, customs brokers, and shipping lines for smooth operations.
- Logistics: Arrange transport, track shipments, and coordinate delivery/collection of goods.
- Financials: Calculate and arrange payment for duties, taxes (VAT), and freight charges.
- Communication: Update clients and internal teams on shipment status, resolving issues and discrepancies.
- Record Keeping: Maintain organized files and update internal systems with shipment details.
