The In-House Counsel position reports to the Associate General Counsel. This individual must be able to advise the company on a variety of legal, regulatory, and compliance issues, including policy interpretation, bad faith, and policy filings. This position will be directly involved in advising the company of the impact of legal concerns on broader corporate initiatives and must be able to communicate with business professionals across the company.

Responsibilities

• Possess general knowledge of Missouri and Kansas laws related to insurance claims.
• Review and respond to subpoenas.
• Manage workload independently.
• Review contracts and provide feedback regarding associated with those contracts.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in insurance across the States in which we do business, identify and assess risks and opportunities associated with those developments, and advise internal business partners regarding same.
• Develop relationships and collaboratively partner with internal stakeholders to assess legal and business risks and support the implementation of suitable mitigation remedies.
• Conduct legal research and stay current on industry trends, laws, proposed laws, and case law.
• Supervise and manage outside counsel on litigation and regulatory matters.
• Support the existing legal team with daily work and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate required
• Licensed to practice law.
• 2+years of general/auto civil litigation, regulatory, or underwriting compliance.
• Experience with contract negotiation is a plus.
• Ability to research and provide guidance on compliance related issues throughout the company.
