Job Summary/Basic Function
The photo editor is responsible for supervising newspaper photography and reports directly to the Indiana Statesman editor-in-chief.

NCAA Guidelines

All employees and staff of ISU are bound by all NCAA, Missouri Valley Conference and institutional rules and regulations pertaining to intercollegiate athletics and must conduct themselves in accordance therewith. For more complete information on the duties and obligations of ISU employees and staff in this regard, employees and staff should contact the Compliance Office in the ISU Athletic Department.

No ISU employee (whether paid or a volunteer) shall knowingly influence others to furnish the NCAA or an ISU investigator/compliance officer false or misleading information concerning an individual’s involvement in or knowledge of matters relevant to a possible violation of an NCAA regulation. Failure to abide by this term of employment shall constitute unethical conduct as defined by the NCAA and may result in immediate suspension and/or termination of the employment relationship with ISU.


Job Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Acting on behalf of and in consultation with the Statesman editor-in-chief, duties include:
§ Assisting the editor-in-chief in recruiting, training and managing photographers.
§ Assigning photographers to assignments as needed to ensure successful and timely completion.
§ Coordinating with writers to supply coverage for events.
§ Overseeing editing of all photographs.
§ Ensuring all photographers understand and adhere to standards for professional and ethical behavior.
§ Ensuring the Statesman is provided with high-quality photos as scheduled.
§ Confirming that all individuals in photos are identified.
§ Providing cutline information to design editors.
§ Setting up and maintaining a database for all photos and identifiers.
§ Ensuring photographers know how to check out Statesman camera equipment
§ Maintaining camera equipment, and reporting damaged equipment or necessary repairs to the director of student publications.
§ Attending budget meetings set by the editor-in-chief.
§ Checking messages and other communication, including Statesman email, on a daily basis.
§ Working with the ISU Athletics Department to secure media passes for coverage of athletic events.
§ Working with other members of the Student Media staff as appropriate.
§ Responding to public inquiries as needed.
§ Other duties as needed or assigned by the Statesman editor-in-chief.
