Infection Control Nurse

Meditrina Hospital, Kollam, invites applications from qualified and experienced nursing professionals for the position of Infection Control Nurse (ICN). The ICN will play a critical role in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating infection prevention and control practices across the hospital, in full compliance with NABH Infection Control (HIC) Standards and statutory regulations.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

1. Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Program

  • Implement and monitor the hospital-wide Infection Control Program as per NABH measurable elements.
  • Assist in developing, updating, and enforcing Infection Control Policies, SOPs, and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with standard precautions, transmission-based precautions, and isolation protocols.

2. Surveillance & Monitoring

  • Conduct regular surveillance of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) including but not limited to:
  • CAUTI
  • CLABSI
  • VAP
  • SSI
  • Collect, analyze, document, and report infection surveillance data on a periodic basis.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual infection control reports for the Infection Control Committee.

3. Audits & Compliance

  • Conduct regular infection control audits in all clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Monitor hand hygiene compliance, biomedical waste segregation, linen handling, CSSD practices, and environmental sanitation.
  • Identify non-conformities and initiate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

4. Education & Training

  • Conduct induction and ongoing training programs for clinical and non-clinical staff on:
  • Hand hygiene
  • Biomedical waste management
  • Use of PPE
  • Needle-stick injury prevention
  • Cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization practices
  • Maintain training records and competency assessments as per NABH requirements.

5. Occupational Health & Safety

  • Monitor staff immunization status and needle-stick injury reporting.
  • Assist in post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) protocols and documentation.
  • Coordinate with Occupational Health services for staff safety initiatives.

6. Committee Coordination

  • Act as Member Secretary / key member of the Infection Control Committee (ICC).
  • Coordinate infection control meetings, prepare minutes, and ensure follow-up of action points.

7. Regulatory & NABH Compliance

  • Ensure readiness for NABH assessments, internal audits, and statutory inspections.
  • Maintain all infection control documentation, manuals, logs, and records in line with NABH standards.
  • Support continuous quality improvement initiatives related to patient safety and infection control.

Qualification Requirements

  • B.Sc Nursing / GNM (recognized by Indian Nursing Council / State Nursing Council).
  • Infection Control Nurse (ICN) Certification or Infection Control Training – mandatory / highly preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2–5 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in a multispecialty hospital.
  • At least 1–2 years of experience in infection control activities is desirable.
  • Prior experience in an NABH-accredited hospital will be a strong advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of NABH Infection Control standards and measurable elements.
  • Sound understanding of microbiology, sterilization, disinfection, and surveillance methodologies.
  • Excellent documentation, analytical, and reporting skills.
  • Effective communication and training abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with medical, nursing, housekeeping, and support teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and hospital reporting systems.

  • NABH audit outcomes related to infection control
