Job Summary
The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating infection prevention and control programs within the healthcare facility. The role ensures compliance with local health authority regulations, accreditation standards, and evidence-based infection control practices to minimize healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and ensure patient, staff, and visitor safety.
Key Responsibilities
1. Infection Prevention & Control Program

Develop, implement, and regularly update infection control policies and procedures.

Ensure compliance with national and international infection prevention standards.

Monitor adherence to infection control protocols across all departments.
2. Surveillance & Monitoring
-
Conduct ongoing surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

Collect, analyze, and interpret infection data and trends.
-
Prepare and present regular infection control reports to management.

Investigate outbreaks and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
3. Training & Education
-
Conduct infection control orientation for new staff.

Provide regular training sessions on hand hygiene, PPE use, isolation precautions, and waste management.

Promote infection prevention awareness campaigns.
4. Audits & Compliance
-
Perform regular infection control audits (hand hygiene, sterilization, environmental cleaning, etc.).

Monitor sterilization and disinfection processes.
-
Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies and accreditation requirements.

Support internal and external audits.
5. Policy Implementation & Risk Management
-
Participate in risk assessments and quality improvement initiatives.

Develop action plans to address identified gaps.

Collaborate with department heads to implement corrective actions.
6. Occupational Health & Safety

Monitor staff immunization status.

Manage exposure incidents (needle stick injuries, blood/body fluid exposure).

Provide guidance on post-exposure prophylaxis protocols.
7. Environmental & Waste Management
-
Oversee biomedical waste management practices.
-
Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization standards are maintained.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.

Valid Nursing License.

Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (preferred).

Minimum 2–3 years of clinical nursing experience (ICU or acute care preferred).

Prior experience in infection control is an advantage.
