The Instructional Designer I will contribute to company success by documenting learning needs and creating a plan for the creation of training modules to support these needs. They will participate in all phases of the instructional content creation process for all parts of the company.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Participates in meetings with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to understand and document learning needs.
Develops clear Key Learning Points (KLPs) based on identified learning needs and objectives.
Creates targeted questions that align with learning objectives, enhancing the effectiveness of instructional content.
Translates learning objectives into a detailed storyboard, providing a visual and structured outline for content creation and editing.
Ensures that the storyboard aligns with instructional goals and quality standards.
Collects and manages media and learning assets required for content development.
Crafts the final script, ensuring that instructional content is concise, engaging, and aligned with learning objectives.
Researches questions regarding content accuracy as needed. Works closely with leadership to update documents and questions, and makes recommendations to topic content changes, updating documentation when necessary.
Maintains ongoing communication with leadership throughout each topic project.
Accurately documents work processes and decisions for future reference, ensuring clarity and continuity in project development.
Regularly updates training course images, scripts, and materials, ensuring they remain current and effective.
Periodically audits and updates files to ensure accuracy.
Reviews requested edits to ensure they maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the content and captures accurate documentation regarding revisions and changes.
Participates in audio recording, video productions, or photo shoots in various roles either behind or in-front of the camera/microphone, as needed.
All other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Operational knowledge of retail and/or warehouse environment.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Strong documentation skills, ensuring clarity and comprehensiveness in training materials.
Excellent human relations skills, with the ability to handle difficult situations with diplomacy and tact.
Self-motivated, organized, accurate, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively with team members.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of O’Reilly operations, policies, and procedures.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
Course credit or a degree in instructional design, education/teaching, training, management, organizational communications, psychology, or a related field.
Knowledge/understanding of Adobe Creative Suite, multimedia production, graphic design, or other development software.
Experience with e-Learning course development tools, such as Articulate or similar platforms.
Retail or service industry front-line experience.
