Summer seasonal positions with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence

Seeking Instructors to lead fun activities in Arts, S.T.E.M., or Gym for elementary school-age children at our South Side and Fox Point clubs.

Summer work schedule:

  • South Side club: Monday through Thursday 12:00 to 5:30 PM, Friday 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM
  • Fox Point club: Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM

The summer work schedule begins with training days June 24-26 and runs through August 21. Must be available for the duration of the program. No program on July 1, 2, 3 and August 7 and 10.

Instructor duties:

· Plan and lead activities in your specialty content area (Arts, STEM or Gym) for rotating age groups (ratio is 1 adult staff to 12 children)

· Direct efforts of any Child Care Group Leaders or other staff assigned to assist the Instructor.

·Ensure that equipment and supplies are used safely and appropriately.

-Instill BGCP values of positive communication, healthy strategies for conflict resolution, teamwork, fairness, inclusion, etc.

· Supervise members for safety and behavior management

· Plan and carry out ways to recognize and celebrate members’ achievements.

· Instructors are required to incorporate Boys & Girls Clubs of America national programs and resources as a portion of the program schedule.

Qualifications

  • Required: Must be available Monday through Friday
  • Required: Must have verifiable experience in planning and conducting age-appropriate activities in their specific content area.
  • Required: At least one year of youth-related work experience with school-age children in a group setting (required), in an urban, diverse setting (preferred).
  • Required: Minimum of 12 or more college credits, and currently pursuing additional education if fewer than 24 credits (college transcript required as documentation).
  • Preferred: 24 or more college credits (college transcript required as documentation).
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree or higher (college transcript required as documentation).
  • Successful candidates in past years have often had work or education backgrounds in Elementary Education, Youth Development, Child Care, Recreation, Arts Education, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or related fields.
  • Age 18 or older (required per state Child Care regulations).
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification required (can be earned during pre-program training).
  • Successful experience working with diverse populations preferred (for example: English Language Learners and students in Special Education programs).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate positively with children of ages 5-12. Positive energy, welcoming attitude, patience, ability to set and reinforce expectations.
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures of organization, in behavior management, safety and security, emergency procedures, etc.
  • Ability to successfully pass all background checks if a conditional offer of employment is made, including but not limited to: national, state, and local background checks (fingerprint-based); continuous criminal records monitoring during the course of employment; RI D.C.Y.F. and relevant out-of-state child abuse registry clearance(s), employment and education verifications; reference checks; pre-employment drug test (for illegal drugs).

Pay Scale for part-time Child Care staff (college transcript(s) required as documentation)

12 to 23 college credits and actively pursuing additional education: $16 - $17/hour, depending on experience

24 to 59 college credits: $17 - $18/hour

60 or more college credits (no degree): $18 - $19/hour

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree (any field): $19/hour

Associate's Degree in Youth Development, Child Development, or related field*: $20/hour

Bachelor's Degree with at least 18 credits in Youth Development, Child Development, or related field*: $20/hour

*Related fields: Child Development, Youth Development, Human Development, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Pediatric Nursing, Home Economics/Family & Consumer Science, Recreation, Child & Family Services
