Instrumentation Engineer (Intern/Coop)/ 2nd Industrial City

Job Summary:

The I&C Co-op / Intern will support the Instrumentation & Control Engineering team in the preparation, review, and coordination of design deliverables for ongoing oil & gas process system projects. The role provides exposure to real project work within NOV’s engineering design environment, including instrument design, documentation, and limited procurement and testing activities under the supervision of experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the scope of design, work, and supply for the instrumentation system.
  • Generate technical datasheet, technical bidding evaluation, and other data based on the project specifications.
  • Support the preparation and updating of instrument index, I/O lists, and cable schedules related to instrumentation and control systems.
  • Participate in the review of vendor documents for instruments, analyzers, valves, and control panels to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Maintain proper documentation and support internal design coordination and project tracking (checklists, registers, action logs, etc.).
  • Interface with other disciplines (Process, Mechanical, Piping) and vendors as requested by the Senior / Lead I&C Engineer.
  • Perform miscellaneous technical and documentation tasks related to instrumentation and control design as requested.

Authority

  • Report in project matters to the Senior / Lead I&C Engineer.

Behavioral Skills / Competencies & Experience Required

  • Willingness to learn instrumentation and control engineering practices within an EPC / project execution environment.
  • Basic understanding of instrumentation principles, control loops, and PLC/DCS concepts.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, drawings, and templates in a structured manner.
  • Good teamwork skills and ability to communicate clearly with engineers and other stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail, with a methodical approach to checking and updating technical documents.
  • Proactive attitude and readiness to ask questions and seek clarification when needed.

Experience

Experience is not required for this position. This is an entry-level, training-oriented role intended for students or recent graduates.

Qualifications (Education)

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Junior/senior student or recent graduate status is preferred.

Skills, Training, Special Knowledge and/or Language Skills

  • Knowledge of MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Basic familiarity with 2D drafting or CAD tools (e.g. AutoCAD) is an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of instrumentation devices (transmitters, control valves, analyzers) and control concepts.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).

Quality Assurance

Comply with applicable NOV engineering procedures, design standards, and document control requirements. Ensure that assigned tasks are carried out with due attention to accuracy and completeness, and promptly highlight any issues or discrepancies to the Senior / Lead I&C Engineer.

Training

Participate in on-the-job training and any instrumentation and control related training modules assigned by NOV. Continuously develop technical skills and understanding of NOV engineering tools and workflows.
