Intellectual Property Attorney

REQUIREMENTS: JD from an accredited law school. Bachelor of Science (or higher) degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical subject accepted by the USTPO for admission to the patent bar. Experience and interest in software licenses, technology transactions, and data management agreements a plus.

This attorney will serve in client counseling, patent drafting, researching and drafting litigation documents, and opinion letters. Must be admitted in Louisiana and/or Texas or be admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction that maintains reciprocity with Texas and the attorney is qualified for admission to the Texas bar upon application. Registration to practice before the USPTO in all forms of IP prosecution strongly preferred; full patent bar eligibility is a requirement. This person can work in our New Orleans, Houston, The Woodlands, or Baton Rouge office.

THE POSITION WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Preparing, prosecuting, and managing patent and trademark applications and other documents relating to patent and trademark prosecution.
  • Communicate with clients, other attorneys and staff, and government offices regarding application status, filings, and procedural requirements.
  • Managing and coordinating international patent and trademark filings and communicating with foreign counsel.
  • Overseeing U.S. and international patent prosecution dockets to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Preparing patent and trademark clearance searches and opinion letters.
  • Drafting and responding to IP-related cease-and-desist letters.
  • Counsel clients regarding IP-related contracts and associated documentation.
  • Assisting in IP litigation.
  • Staying up to date with development in IP law and practice.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
