Intellectual Property Counsel
Huntsman is seeking an Intellectual Property Counsel supporting the Corporate / Legal Division located in The Woodlands, Texas. This position will report to Intellectual Property Legal Leadership.
Job Scope
The Intellectual Property Counsel will provide comprehensive legal support related to intellectual property matters across Huntsman’s Business Divisions and Functional Departments. This role is responsible for protecting and leveraging Huntsman’s intellectual property assets while delivering pragmatic, business-focused legal advice aligned with commercial objectives.
In summary, as the Intellectual Property Counsel, you will:
Provide comprehensive intellectual property legal services to assigned Business Divisions and Functional Departments.
Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications.
Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on IP-related agreements, letters, forms, and other legal documents.
Assess and advise on third-party intellectual property risks, liabilities, and legal restrictions, including preparing freedom-to-operate opinions.
Evaluate and advise on potential infringement of Huntsman’s IP rights by third parties and support IP-related litigation and dispute resolution.
Manage and coordinate outside legal counsel as needed.
Promote compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Huntsman policies and procedures.
Complete required company training and participate in Environmental, Health, and Safety initiatives.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited university.
4+ years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution.
Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state with an active State Bar membership.
Registered Patent Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Proficiency with Internet tools, email, and Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience drafting and negotiating IP-related agreements (e.g., licenses, NDAs, collaboration agreements).
Experience supporting IP litigation or dispute resolution matters.
Prior experience working in a corporate or industrial chemical environment.
Working Environment
Primarily an office-based role at Huntsman’s Corporate Headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas.
Standard business hours with occasional flexibility to meet business needs.
Interaction with cross-functional teams and external legal counsel.
