Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Interior Designer to join our growing team. This role is ideal for a designer who thrives in a collaborative, high-accountability environment and is eager to take ownership of projects, support the senior design team, and contribute meaningfully across design, project management, and studio operations.
This is a hands-on position. There is no idle time—success in this role requires initiative, follow-through, adaptability, and a willingness to jump in wherever needed to move projects forward.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Technical Support
- Assist the senior design team throughout all phases of high-end residential and commercial design projects, from initial concept through installation and closeout
- Produce and maintain interior design documentation, including floor plans, elevations, schedules, specifications, templates, and shop/construction drawings
- Correct drawings based on redlines and team feedback
- Assist in developing space plans, furniture layouts, finish selections, and design concepts
- Support the preparation of client presentations and participate in client meetings as needed
- Assist with sourcing furniture, finishes, fabrics, lighting, and accessories
- Support furniture and finish package development, including cost estimating
- Assist with field surveys and site verifications
Project Coordination & Management
- Order and track design elements for projects
- Coordinate and track client lead times, inspections, deliveries, and installations
- Conduct site visits with clients, contractors, vendors, and trades
- Support project setup and tracking in project management systems (Mydoma, Asana)
- Assist in identifying full project scope, timelines, and budgets
- Support proposal preparation and design fee calculations per company standards
Client, Vendor & Trade Support
- Assist in maintaining positive, professional relationships with clients, vendors, and trades
- Support clear, proactive communication throughout the project lifecycle
- Help resolve design, coordination, and installation challenges as they arise
Studio Operations & Marketing
- Maintain organization of the design studio, sample library, and resource storage
- Run errands and assist with general studio needs as required
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or Architecture
- 3–5 years of professional interior design experience (primarily residential; some commercial exposure preferred)
- Proficiency in CAD (AutoCAD and/or Chief Architect) is required
- Proficiency Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
- Proficiency in SketchUp is required
- 3D modeling/rendering software strongly preferred
- Familiarity or willingness to learn: Google Suite, Mydoma, Asana and Canva
- Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Professional, confident communicator comfortable interacting with clients, contractors, and vendors
- Proactive, positive, “can-do” mindset with a strong desire for professional growth
- Team-oriented, self-motivated, and accountable
- Genuine passion for thoughtful, high-end design
- Experience with construction documentation and detailing (plans, elevations, sections, details)
- Experience with creating Interior architectural systems (walls, ceilings, millwork, built-ins)
- Preparation of technical specifications and finish schedules
Work Environment & Compensation
- Office Location: 251 Diversion, Rochester, MI
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Type: This role is currently a part time (3 day a week) contract position with a 90-day probationary period. The position may be partially hybrid if needed.
- Compensation: Wage determined according to potential candidate experience. Range $23-$29 per hour.
