About Aker Development
Aker Development is a design-build construction company focused on residential infill and multifamily projects in the Pacific Northwest. We integrate design, construction, and execution to deliver high-quality, efficient, and thoughtfully designed spaces.
Position Overview
Aker Development is seeking a highly capable Interior Designer to lead and execute design selections across multiple residential projects. This role is responsible for translating project vision into cohesive, buildable design packages—from interior finishes to exterior materials and landscape concepts—while coordinating closely with construction teams and vendors.
The ideal candidate combines strong design sensibility with practical construction awareness and can operate effectively in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Selections
- Develop cohesive interior and exterior design concepts aligned with project goals and market positioning
- Select and specify:
- Interior finishes (flooring, tile, paint, wall treatments)
- Exterior finishes (siding, trim, color palettes)
- Cabinetry materials and configurations
- Surface materials (countertops, backsplashes, etc.)
- Lighting and plumbing fixtures
- Hardware (door, cabinet, bath accessories)
- Produce clear and consistent color schemes and finish palettes across units and projects
Space Planning & Design Development
- Provide furniture layouts and space planning as needed
- Design accent walls and feature elements to elevate product differentiation
- Contribute to landscape design concepts in coordination with project goals
Visualization & Presentation
- Create renderings, visualizations, and design boards for internal and external use
- Prepare presentation materials that clearly communicate design intent
Coordination & Execution
- Work closely with internal teams (construction, project management) to ensure design feasibility and execution
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to source materials and confirm specifications
- Interface with platforms, procurement systems, and vendors to manage selections and ordering workflows
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in residential interior design (multifamily or infill preferred)
- Strong portfolio demonstrating finish selections, cohesive design packages, and built work
- Proficiency in design and visualization tools (e.g., SketchUp, Revit, AutoCAD, Enscape, Lumion, or similar)
- Experience producing renderings and presentation-quality visuals
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and buildability considerations
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Key Traits
- High attention to detail and design consistency
- Strong decision-making ability in a fast-paced environment
- Practical, execution-oriented mindset (not purely conceptual)
- Effective communicator with both design and construction teams
- Ability to balance creativity with budget and timeline constraints
