Intern – Literacy & Community Engagement (Kitab Gari)

Location: Karachi
Duration: 3–6 months (Paid Internship)
Reporting To: Kitab Gari Project Lead / Program Coordinator

About the Internship

The Kitab Gari Internship offers a hands-on learning opportunity for motivated students or recent graduates who are passionate about literacy, education, and community engagement. The intern will work closely with the Kitab Gari project team to support the planning, implementation, and documentation of literacy activities across schools and communities in Karachi. This is a paid, learning-focused role designed to build practical experience in program implementation, field engagement, and education-focused development work.

Eligibility & Education:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Education, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Students with relevant coursework, volunteer experience, or demonstrated interest in literacy and community development are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Support & Implementation

  • Assist in the planning and execution of Kitab Gari literacy activities in line with project objectives.
  • Support the coordination and logistics of book distribution to schools, libraries, and community centers.
  • Accompany the team during field visits and provide on-ground support for activities.

Literacy & Community Engagement

  • Support the organization of reading sessions, storytelling activities, and literacy events for children.
  • Assist facilitators during storytelling and interactive reading sessions to encourage child participation.
  • Engage with community members, teachers, and school staff to promote a positive reading culture.

Documentation, Monitoring & Reporting

  • Help document program activities, including attendance records, field notes, and participant feedback.
  • Support basic monitoring of activities and contribute to simple progress summaries.
  • Assist in preparing short reports, presentations, and photo documentation for internal and external use.

Coordination & Communication

  • Support coordination with schools and partner organizations for scheduling visits and activities.
  • Maintain clear communication with the project team regarding timelines, field plans, and assigned tasks.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the internship, the intern will:

  • Gain practical exposure to the design and implementation of literacy programs
  • Develop experience in community engagement and field-based education work
  • Build skills in documentation, reporting, and basic program monitoring
  • Strengthen communication and coordination skills in a professional development setting

  • Strong interest in literacy, education, and community-based initiatives

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Rs25,000.00 - Rs30,000.00 per month
