Intern - Meat Science Applications

Summary:

We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic Meat Science Intern to join our team for a dynamic, hands-on internship experience. This role is ideal for students passionate about meat processing and equipment applications who are eager to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. The intern will support our test kitchen operations, assist with customer product demonstrations, and play a key role in the delivery of our UltraSource Academy short course. In addition, the intern will complete a capstone research project designed to generate actionable insights that benefit both UltraSource and its customers-focusing on areas such as yield optimization, equipment usability, or process efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and executing product demonstrations for current and prospective customers in the test kitchen
  • Support customer trials by helping with setup, operation, and cleanup of meat processing equipment
  • Collaborate with the technical sales and applications team to ensure successful product presentations and customer experiences
  • Participate in the planning and delivery of the UltraSource Academy short course, including:
    • Course setup and teardown
    • Ingredient and equipment preparation
    • Assisting instructors during hands-on sessions and demonstrations
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of the test kitchen and equipment
  • Conduct a research project focused on improving product yields, enhancing equipment usability, or streamlining processing workflows. This project will culminate in a presentation to company leadership and may contribute to future customer solutions or internal best practices.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Meat Science, Animal Science, Food Science, or a related field
  • Strong interest in meat processing, equipment functionality, and customer engagement
  • Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment with commercial food equipment
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and materials as needed
  • Prior experience in meat processing, foodservice, or equipment operation is a plus

Physical Demands:

Work Environment:

The work environment is usually quiet and climate controlled. The job requires exposure to moving mechanical parts, industrial machinery, moderate noise, and hot or cold ambient temperatures, specifically in the test kitchen.
