Summary/Objective

The Intervention Specialist provides specially designed instruction to students on their caseload, ensuring that instruction is appropriate for their abilities, subjects, and personal growth. This role involves collaborating with teachers and service providers to develop measurable goals and determine appropriate accommodations for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Essential Functions

Special Education

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Special Education policies and regulations.
  • Provide specially designed instruction to students in accordance with their IEPs.
  • Collaborate with teachers and service providers to develop individualized, objective, and measurable goals and objectives for IEPs.
  • Determine appropriate accommodations and interventions for students’ IEPs.
  • Complete IEP Progress Reports for students on the caseload.
  • Attend IEP and IAT meetings as requested.

Instructional Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrate evidence of effective planning.
  • Utilize a variety of methods and techniques to meet student needs.
  • Create an inviting and engaging classroom environment.
  • Encourage proper care and usage of equipment, furnishings, and materials.
  • Be receptive to new ideas and demonstrate enthusiasm.
  • Use the written and spoken word effectively.
  • Teach social thinking and social skills to students.
  • Evaluate and report student progress on approved reporting tools as scheduled.
  • Follow Summit Academy’s Instructional Design.

Classroom Management

  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with students and staff.
  • Maintain a consistent classroom routine.
  • Set clear expectations for student behavior.
  • Uphold school rules and implement the PBIS Behavior System.

Professional Attitude and Relationships

  • Interact professionally with Summit Academy staff and colleagues.
  • Work effectively with colleagues in a collaborative manner.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards:
    • Colleagues
    • Students
    • Parents/guardians
    • Special service personnel
    • Support staff
    • Administrators
    • Visitors/public

Professional Growth

  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Serve on school and/or district-wide curriculum committees.
  • Plan, implement, and complete an Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP) as prescribed by the LPDC.
  • Participate in the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES).

Personal Characteristics

  • Maintain professional behavior at all times.
  • Dress professionally in accordance with school standards.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional school environment and routinely uses standard office and classroom equipment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and drive. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This position follows the School/Teacher calendar and may require work outside of standard operating hours.

Travel

Travel may be required for professional development, training, or meetings.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and licensure in Special Education (Intervention Specialist).
  • Valid Ohio teaching certificate or license.
  • Appropriate criminal background clearance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to generate, record, and maintain information and statistical data.
  • Ability to administer, score, and interpret tests of individual achievement.
  • Knowledge of Ohio’s Learning Standards and the Ohio Department of Education Model Curriculum.

Preferred Education and Experience

Knowledge and experience with students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
