Inventory Control Manager

Ensure production readiness and material accuracy as an Inventory Control Manager—overseeing purchasing, inventory integrity, and supplier coordination to support efficient manufacturing operations.


Description:
Under the direction of the Sales Manager, the Inventory Control Manager is responsible for planning, procuring, and maintaining materials required to support production schedules and customer demand. This role manages planned material requirements, inventory accuracy, supplier performance, and ERP transactions while serving as a key liaison between suppliers, production, and internal teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, place, and manage purchase orders to support production timelines and material availability.

  • Monitor planned material requirements and inventory daily; conduct and oversee cycle counts across all locations.

  • Own the cycle count program, including variance investigation, corrective actions, and inventory accuracy reporting.

  • Actively manage and close open purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery.

  • Support receiving activities and ensure accurate documentation of packing slips and material certifications.

  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to achieve cost savings, reliable delivery, and effective stock levels.

  • Expedite or defer material orders as needed due to schedule changes, BOM updates, or product obsolescence.

  • Resolve invoice-to-PO discrepancies, credited returns, and purchasing-related issues in coordination with AP.

  • Collaborate with internal customers to recommend sourcing solutions and alternative materials when needed.

  • Support sales activities by assisting with small quotes, customer purchase orders, and account management.

  • Help develop and improve procurement and inventory control policies and procedures.

  • Track and follow up on supplier performance metrics such as on-time delivery and quality.

  • Assist with coordination of material transfers between facilities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in purchasing or materials management within a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience purchasing a wide range of materials including aluminum, stainless steel, carbon steel, coated materials, weld nuts, PEMs, and structural components.

  • Strong understanding of inventory management, material flow, and supply chain processes.

  • Proven experience working within ERP systems for purchasing, inventory transactions, and material planning.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.

  • Ability to work on-site and interact regularly with both office and production environments.
