ELKHART COUNTY GOVERNMENTAL POSITION VACANCY NOTICE

INVESTIGATOR

DEPARTMENT: Public Defender

HIRING RANGE: $33.85- $37.61/hour based on education and position related experience. Longevity pay after 3 years.

HOURS & DAYS OF WORK: 40 hours/week

LOCATION OF POSITION: Elkhart County Courthouse-Goshen

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Within County (please complete driving page on application)

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for interviews of clients at a variety of locations including jails/prisons; Locates and interviews defense/prosecution witness and assists in the preparation and serving of subpoenas to witnesses. Collects evidence, receives/inspects police-collected evidence, assists in providing discoveries to defendants for criminal cases, and investigates all criminal cases filed when defendant maintains ‘not guilty’ plea. Scans/prints/logs/files discovery requests and discoveries.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

· High school diploma or GED and Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Training or out of state equivalent; a minimum of five (5) years of related law enforcement experience required

· Must be at least 21 years of age, and have a valid driver's license

· Ability to obtain and apply knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, codes, ordinances, and accepted police procedures

· Working knowledge of an ability to effectively apply evidence collection and preservation techniques

· Pre-employment background check
