Great opportunity to join our Investment Management team in this newly created role!
The Investment Director supports the asset/liability and balance sheet management of the general account by designing, monitoring, and overseeing asset positioning relative to liabilities. This role collaborates with Actuarial, Risk Management, Finance and other departments to optimize portfolio performance while maintaining appropriate risk tolerance and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Partner with cross-functional teams including Actuarial, Risk Management, and Finance to optimize asset positioning relative to general account liabilities
Develop and maintain monthly and quarterly investment reports for senior management and Board of Directors
Analyze market sectors including public/private corporate, municipal, asset backed, mortgage backed, commercial backed, and equity investments
Coordinate manager due diligence processes with consultant and CIO while fostering connectivity across asset classes
Monitor and improve liquidity management processes and frameworks
Support Strategic Asset Allocation process by refining input assumptions and evaluating asset classes for inclusion.
Lead enhancement of asset Liability Management (ALM) framework to optimize asset positioning and maintain analytical platforms
Collaborate with investment analytics partners and internal teams to design tools, dashboards and applications that enable data-driven decision-making
Manage Federal Home Loan Bank margin banking Program by monitoring collateral and asset performance to achieve favorable risk-adjusted returns and increase investment income
Execute trading activities for potential internal portfolio carveout, identifying opportunities in odd-lot and closed-end fund markets
Conduct research on special projects to enhance portfolio composition, including Insurance Company Owned Life Insurance (ICOLI) and acquisition target optimizations
Integrate artificial intelligence and automation into investment workstream to improve efficiency and decision-making
Education, Experience, Competencies & Values
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, data analytics, or equivalent experience
5-8 years of experience supporting insurance investment portfolios
CFA designation or active progression toward CFA designation
Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint with advanced analytical capabilities
Strong understanding of capital markets and insurance products required
Demonstrated expertise in investment data and analytics with focus on accuracy, scalability, and performance
Knowledge of portfolio and capital risk frameworks preferred
Experience with Python or other programming languages preferred
Fixed income trading experience (1-3 years) advantageous but not required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts to diverse stakeholders
Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving abilities in analytical environments
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in collaborative team settings
Strong interest in incorporating artificial intelligence into investment processes
Willingness to travel as needed
The base salary range is $122,000 - $143,000. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate including geographic location, skill set, experience, qualifications and education.
