IT Field Service Technician

Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled IT Field Service Technician to join our dynamic technology support team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing on-site and remote technical assistance to clients, ensuring the smooth operation of their IT infrastructure. Your expertise will help resolve hardware and software issues, optimize network performance, and enhance user productivity. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a comprehensive understanding of various operating systems and networking principles. Duties

  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues on-site or remotely, ensuring minimal downtime for clients.
  • Install, configure, and maintain computer systems, peripherals, and networking equipment across multiple environments.
  • Provide technical support for operating systems such as Windows, macOS, and Linux, including troubleshooting software conflicts and hardware failures.
  • Manage computer management tasks including updates, backups, and security configurations using tools like BMC Remedy, ServiceNow, or Jira.
  • Assist users with setting up Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), firewalls, and other security measures to protect sensitive data.
  • Conduct routine inspections of IT infrastructure components such as LAN (Local Area Network), switches, routers, and wireless access points.
  • Document incidents accurately in help desk systems; escalate complex issues when necessary to specialized teams.
  • Educate clients on best practices for operating systems, software applications like Microsoft Office, and general computer maintenance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to improve service delivery processes and ensure customer satisfaction through clear communication.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in IT support roles with a focus on desktop support and field service operations.
  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware components and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Familiarity with operating systems including Windows (various versions), macOS, and Linux distributions.
  • Proficiency in managing computer networks such as LANs; understanding of network protocols like TCP/IP.
  • Experience with software troubleshooting across multiple platforms; familiarity with tools like Jira or ServiceNow is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of security technologies including VPNs and firewalls to safeguard client networks.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
  • Ability to work independently in diverse environments while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) are preferred.
