IT Specialist

Job Overview

The IT Specialist serves as the essential on-site bridge between RuralEdge’s internal staff and our hosted IT company. This role ensures that the organization’s technology infrastructure—including hardware, software, and digital communication systems—is functioning optimally to support our mission. The IT Specialist provides direct technical support, manages equipment lifecycles, and leads learning and development initiatives to help staff use software to improve workflows. By maintaining a seamless digital environment, this role enables RuralEdge to focus on strengthening Northeast Kingdom communities.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary onsite liaison between RuralEdge staff and the hosted IT company to coordinate technical needs and ensure timely resolution of escalated issues.
  • Manage and administer the RingCentral digital phone system, including user configuration, call routing, and hardware troubleshooting.
  • Monitor the lifecycle of office hardware; update, configure, and replace equipment (computers, peripherals, and phones) as necessary.
  • Provide onsite support and troubleshooting for hardware and software issues in both Windows and Mac environments.
  • Lead Learning and Development opportunities by providing hands-on guidance and training to staff on core software and SaaS applications to optimize workflows.
  • Assist with VPN setup and maintenance to ensure secure and reliable remote access for staff.
  • Manage and support Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) processes to maintain high security standards across all platforms.
  • Coordinate the IT-related aspects of onboarding and offboarding staff, ensuring new hires are equipped and trained on internal systems.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of hardware inventory and software licenses.
  • Develop and maintain clear "how-to" documentation and user guides for staff reference.
  • Communicate effectively with all departments regarding system updates, maintenance windows, and security protocols.

Other Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with internal staff and external partners to ensure data security and system integrity.
  • Assist in the setup of technology for community-building events or board meetings as needed.
  • Attend all staff meetings, training sessions, and other appropriate meetings as required.
  • Stay current with emerging SaaS trends and tools that could improve organizational efficiency.
  • Report any security breaches or significant system failures immediately to management and the hosted IT provider.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the manager.

Skills & Qualifications

  • An associate’s degree in information technology or equivalent relevant experience is required.
  • Proven experience working with SaaS platforms and cloud-based applications.
  • Proficiency in supporting both Windows and Mac operating systems.
  • Functional knowledge of VPN technologies, MFA implementation, and network connectivity.
  • Experience managing digital VOIP systems (RingCentral experience preferred)
  • Strong Interpersonal skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into understandable terms for non-technical staff.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
