DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The ITA Department provides forensic behavioral health evaluation and services to patients at the Center for Behavioral Health and Learning and at the UW Medical Center - Northwest and Montlake campuses who are going through the involuntary treatment act (ITA)/civil commitment process for involuntary behavioral health treatment. This includes patients admitted to the Emergency Department (ED) and medical units on the UW Medical Center - Northwest and Montlake campuses.
ABOUT THE CENTER FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND LEARNING
The new Center for Behavioral Health and Learning at UW Medical Center – Northwest campus opened in 2024. It offers an unparalleled opportunity to transform mental health care and to improve mental health care training in our state. Located in North Seattle, the new facility features 75 long-term civil commitment adult psychiatry beds, 25 geriatric psychiatry beds, 50 medical/surgical beds focused on patients with psychiatric comorbidities, and a state-of-the-art neuromodulation program. It also houses an interdisciplinary training and workforce development program focused on preparing and supporting the next generation of behavioral health providers for Washington State. The six-story building is a beautiful place to work with lots of windows, natural lighting and open-concept spaces and offers amenities including a new kitchen and dining area for patients, staff and visitors.
