About Us
The Public Works Department provides skilled and unskilled labor vital to the operations of the City of St. Augustine Beach. The Department provides sanitation, groundskeeping, and janitorial services, as well as drainage maintenance and general maintenance of roadways. Our crews are often the public face of the city, and our personnel are out working in the city daily.

Who we are seeking
We are currently seeking applicants for the entry-level position of Janitor. Ideal candidates are self-starters and enjoy working solo but are capable of working in a team dynamic when needed, are capable of taking direction, and enjoy planning their own efforts while also completing a daily list of tasks. Previous janitorial experience is a plus, willingness to work weekends is required.

Primary Job Duties
Janitorial work maintaining cleanliness and appearance of all City buildings, including but not limited to, City Hall, the Police Department, Building C, the Public Works Building, and City provided Public Restrooms. This may include dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, removal of trash, cleaning sinks, cleaning microwaves, cleaning refrigerators, cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms, stocking paper products and soaps, and cleaning of windows and doors. Other tasks may consist of operating a leaf blower at entryways, setting up chairs and tables for meetings when necessary, ordering of supplies, and maintaining a cleaning schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License (preference given for CDL Class A or B).
  • Drug screen and physical required, clear background preferred (for work in PD).
  • Ability to speak standard English, understand oral instructions, and to read and write.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred – may substitute with appropriate work experience.
  • Ability to pass a national fingerprint-based background check a requirement.
  • Ability to work weekends preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Willingness to perform routine manual labor.
  • Ability and stamina to lift heavy articles and equipment routinely weighing 40lbs and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environment including natural heat, cold, and harsh weather conditions.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, and stoop to do the required work.
  • Ability to carry and move tools and equipment without assistance.

  • Hourly wage $16.75 duration probationary period ($17.25 after 6 months)
