Journeyman Electrician - Swing - Roseburg, OR

Position Title: Journey Electrician
Reports To: Electrical Supervisor
Department: Maintenance
Hours per shift: Employee works 10-hour shifts, with three 10- minute breaks, and a 30- minute unpaid lunch break. Schedule will fluctuate depending on machine center down time and mill needs.
Wage: DOE
Position Purpose: Maintain high levels of production by minimizing downtime by providing both predictive and preventive maintenance on all equipment. Brings forth issues and resolves them through formal action planning. Works closely with all members of the Maintenance, Production, & Management Teams.

Position Functions:
Journey Electrician: Essential Functions*
These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job.

Level 1 Functions:
  • Must be familiar with the mill electrical system. (MCC’s, disconnects, machines, and conveying systems).
  • Blueprint reading.
  • Installations by code.
  • Able to install conduit level, straight, according to code or better depending on application.
  • Able to troubleshoot and repair 120 vac to 480 vac control power.
  • Able to troubleshoot and repair low voltage AC and DC.
  • Troubleshoot power supplies of all types. Etc low voltage, multi voltage, and constant voltage.
  • Make prints of installations complete
  • Troubleshoot 3-phase power, MCC’s, motors, relay logic and aux contacts.
Level 2 Functions: In addition to all elements of level 1, the following are required:
  • Good understanding of machine center control / electrical systems.
  • Allen Bradley PLC program schools.
  • Know how to use timers, counters, basic ladder logic, and force functions.
  • Know how to troubleshoot PLC program logic.
  • Troubleshoot PLC and its components, replace processors and modules.
  • Basic understanding of AC frequency drives and soft starters.
  • Understand plant optimizer systems; how to restart systems and calibrate scanner systems.
  • Understand plant production and downtime reports. Know how to reset and restart computer system.
  • Understand HMI systems. Know how to reset and restart computer system.
  • Understand plant PanelView and MessageView systems.
  • Understand Plant PLC network.
  • PLC programming / Frequency drive classes once per year.
Level 3 Functions: In addition to all elements of level 1 & 2, the following are required:
  • Complete understanding of machine center control / electrical systems.
  • Understand plant optimizer systems on how to change configuration files and how to back up systems.
  • Understand plant production and downtime report system. Know how to change and add information to the report system. Know how to back up the systems.
  • Understand HMI systems. Know how to change and add/remove information to the system. Know how to back up the systems.
  • Understand PanelView and MessageView systems. Know how to change and add/remove information to the system. Know how to back up the systems.
  • Understand the Plant PLC network and how to change it.
  • Layout and complete moderately complex projects to include:
  • Conduit layout
  • Wire sizing
  • Control wiring
  • MCC & motor sizing
Non-Essential Functions
These duties are secondary in nature and are not classified as ADA essential.

Perform other duties and functions as assigned by supervisor for production and cleaning purpose.

Working Environment: (1) Inside 50%, average temperature 80 degrees, extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 120 degrees F. (2) Outside 50%. Noise or vibration: Machine noise to include machine being operated as well as other machines close by including Forklifts. Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis. (3) Atmospheric conditions: Dust: Limited, Mist: Water, Odors: Dry wood, Gasses: None, Poor Ventilation: None. The worker in this position will be standing on a slightly elevated wooden platform with rubber mats. The worker will move back and forth on this platform in front of an elevated dry conveyor measuring 3 ½ to 4’ above the ground. Personal Protective Equipment Required: (1) Eye Protection. (2) Hearing Protection. (3) Blue Atlas gloves. (4) Approved Footwear (5) High Visibility Clothing.

Physical Demands: See the attached Job/Task Evaluation and Physical Capabilities portion; this position requires constant use of hearing and vision, frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching, and occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 50 lbs.

Skills: (1) must have excellent hand eye coordination. Use vision/hearing continuously and must have peripheral vision to see forklifts and co-workers. Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc. Worker generally works with another clean up member with little supervision. Clean up members must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task. Ability to prioritize, organize, and make necessary decisions.
Safety: (1) Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep all body parts out of machinery. (2) Always use our 14-step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy. (3) Always use proper body mechanics (ex: don’t overreach, get help as needed to push loads out). (4) Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection). (5) Be aware of and always communicate with your co-worker (ex: forklift driver). (6) Will be required to read and write during safety training.
