AGENCY: GRIP is an interfaith, multi-cultural coalition of 41-member congregations – Christians, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, and Sikhs – working together to address critical issues of human dignity and social justice in West Contra Costa County. For over 50 years GRIP has been providing services and shelter to the Contra Costa homeless population. We currently operate three core programs serving homeless families.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Kitchen Manager plans, cooks and organizes meals in coordination with other assigned staff. Provides all aspects of food service at GRIP Souper Center. All meals must meet nutritional standards per the California Department of Education Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Plan and prepares nutritious, healthy, balanced meals daily and comply with community Care Licensing’s Title 22 Regulations of food service preparation. All meals shall meet the minimum requirements set forth in the meal patterns for infants, older children and adults as prescribed by Title 7, Code of Federal Regulations, and Section 226.
2. Prepares or oversees the preparation of all breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals; including prep, cooking, serving and clean-up. Prepares special meals for clients with special diets, as required.
3. Develop weekly and monthly menus and facilitate weekly menu planning to support volunteer efforts and donated food items.
4. Coordinates and communicates with part-time weekend cook to ensure weekend meals are adequately prepared and served.
5. Conduct nutritional education and training with appropriate staff and volunteers, including training staff and volunteers in food handling techniques and proper use of kitchen equipment, as necessary.
6. Maintain kitchen and pantry in a clean, organized and sanitary way. Reorganizing as needed and performing regular deep cleaning.
7. Ensure proper safety and sanitation in food preparation and service areas.
8. Performs regular inventory, ordering and purchasing of food and program supplies.
9. Inventory all food items when delivered and oversee proper storage of all food items.
10. Maintain freezer temperatures at 0 degrees and refrigerator 45 degrees: defrost and clean.
11. Works cooperatively with Family Shelter staff to prepare appropriate lunches for families residing in GRIP Family Shelter.
12. Attend agency in-service trainings and assigned safety trainings; identify and immediately report all work-place hazards, safety rule violations, and work-related injuries.
