Lab Assistant, Clinical Anatomy

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Minimum of one year of experience as a Laboratory Assistant I or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with anatomical specimens, embalming processes, and preparing embalming solutions.
• Knowledge of gross anatomy lab procedures and safe handling of human donors.
• Understanding of biohazard protocols, chemical safety, PPE, and EH&S compliance.
• Ability to perform tasks requiring precision, manual dexterity, and safe instrument handling.
• Ability to follow technical instructions, document inventory changes, and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
• Professionalism and adherence to donor care standards required in anatomy educational environments.
• Safe operation of: perfusion apparatus, bone saw, dissection instruments, hoist systems, vacuum pumps, steam sprayers, specimen carts, freezers/refrigerators, and cleaning equipment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Some familiarity with a laboratory environment helpful but not required. Will be trained to do this work.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

• In addition to the qualifications listed for the Laboratory Glassware Washer, these employees must have demonstrated initiative and good judgment.
• Required to perform work with a minimum of error and less day-to-day supervision.
• Basic Arithmetic skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

• Manual dexterity to perform assigned tasks.
• Write by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts.
• Frequently stand/walk, perform seated work, operate special machines.
• Occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach /work above shoulders, light fine grasping.
• Lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 75 pounds.
• Rarely help move heavier items (e.g. chairs or lab equipment; packages of supplies; drums containing 2 to 15 gallons, depending on ability.
• In some Glassware Washing operations, occasionally may pull a wheeled Glassware cart that weighs approximately 100 pounds.

Additional PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
In some AGP operations, occasionally may pull a gurney that weighs approximately 220 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work occurs in a research laboratory environment. Depending on research, Lab Assistants may work in the vicinity of animals, chemicals, gasses or hazardous materials. Expected to follow all safety requirements and procedures, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if required.

Additional and/or Unusual WORKING CONDITIONS:

• May be required to work overtime, evenings and weekends, including Holidays.
• Potential exists for exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potential biohazard materials.
• Must be willing to work with donors and cadavers in experimental circumstances.

The expected pay range for this position is $29.54 (Step 1) to $35.71 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
