Technical Operations Manager and Industrial Liaison
Purpose:
The job holder is responsible for operating and maintaining the assigned labs, providing the necessary support for faculty, researchers, teaching assistants, graduate or undergraduate students and external customers, including supervising the installation, operation and maintenance of lab equipment, assisting in procurement vendors including market surveys and the collection of price quotations and spare parts, training equipment users, assuring equipment operation, setting up the equipment operation schedule, organizing work flow, ensuring lab safety, and representing the Department of Mechanical Engineering in university and school events. In addition, the job holder is responsible for assisting instructors of courses to which s or he is assigned as a teaching assistant in facilitating learning activities inside and outside the classroom and the laboratory.
Responsibilities:

Ensuring assigned labs’ readiness for any technical task within its predetermined mission

Operating and maintaining all assigned labs’ assets, such as machines, equipment, tools and infrastructure, under the guidance of the faculty lab supervisor

Implementing and reporting all labs’ technical work instructions, Lab needs and activities to the faculty lab supervisor

Running trials of the work to be carried out by students prior to the lab session
-
Setting up, conducting, and explaining experiments to students in the assigned labs

Supporting the instructors of the courses listed, dimensions or non-financial
-
Assisting faculty lab supervisors in the development of lab manuals and procedures
-
Facilitating the projects or research endeavors of the undergraduate or graduate students, as well as researchers and professors in their research activities or grants and engineering and science services, with the approval of the faculty lab supervisor

Staying up to date and reporting to lab faculty supervisors on new or required developments in fields related to the assigned labs
-
Procuring consumables or simple supplies from local market vendors, and performing any required market survey

Contacting the vendors to get price quotations for any required items
-
Maintaining an updated inventory of all lab items, such as equipment, devices, tools, consumables, and others
-
Ensuring smooth operation of the lab in supporting instructors, students, and course requirements, while maintaining proper inter-lab relations

Continuously training subordinates to maintain their competence in using all the labs’ assets

Carrying out various manual tasks using manual tools, where applicable
-
Ensuring safe and clean working environment within the assigned labs and their premises, in coordination with the AUC health and safety department

Applying safety regulations or precautions, safe work practices, and immediately report any safety violation incident or condition or potential hazards

Monitoring first aid kits, fire-fighting equipment and safety gears in coordination with the AUC clinic and health and safety department

Supervising the cleanliness of the lab workplace, equipment and tools

Supporting students in carrying out experimental work in labs

Assisting in all required duties related to students in coordination with the faculty supervisor

Assisting in preparing course material and lab handouts under the guidance of the course instructor

Conducting revision or problem sessions which do not require the introduction of new materials to students under the guidance of the course instructor

Leading in-class discussions and group activities which do not require the introduction of new materials to students under the guidance of the course instructor
Requirements:
Minimum Education Requirements:
- B.Sc. or M. Sc. degree in mechanical or mechatronics engineering, with a minimum GPA of 3.2
Experience:
-
A minimum of one year of experience as a lab engineer or similar experience

Good background in mechatronics engineering

Good grasp of mechanical engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them
-
Good background and knowledge of engineering dynamics and mechanical vibration and instrumentation
Skills:

Advanced English skills, reading and writing

Good Arabic skills, reading and writing
-
Good communication skills in both English and Arabic
-
Good time management and planning skills

Good interpersonal skills
-
Good computer skills and working experience with the main Microsoft office software
