Position Summary
The QC Lab Technician is responsible for performing polymer and petrochemical laboratory testing, analyses, and quality control checks on raw materials (e.g., PET resin), semi-finished products (sheets, preforms), and finished thermoforming products. The role ensures that all materials and products meet the company’s technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and product quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Testing & Analysis
- Perform physical, chemical, and mechanical testing of PET resin, preforms, sheets, and thermoformed products.
- Conduct tests such as melt flow index (MFI), intrinsic viscosity (IV), density, color (haze, yellowness), moisture content, crystallinity, tensile strength, etc.
- Analyze additives, stabilizers, and possible contaminants.
- Use spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, UV-Vis), chromatography (if applicable), and other polymer characterization methods.
- Quality Control / Assurance
- Verify that raw materials (PET resin) comply with supplier specifications.
- Check in-process materials and final products for compliance with internal and customer specifications.
- Monitor batch-to-batch consistency.
- Support in troubleshooting quality issues — e.g., off-spec products, rejects, failures.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain detailed lab reports, test data, and certificates of analysis (CoA).
- Record and interpret data; trend analysis to support continuous improvement.
- Ensure documentation complies with relevant standards (e.g., food safety, ISO, regulatory).
- Assist in internal and external audits (customer audits, regulatory audits).
- Calibration & Maintenance
- Ensure lab instruments (e.g., viscometers, spectrometers, moisture analyzers) are calibrated and maintained.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration, document results, and coordinate with the lab manager or external calibration services.
- Safety & Compliance
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental protocols in the lab.
- Ensure chemical handling is done safely, in compliance with SDS (Safety Data Sheets) and waste disposal procedures.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the lab’s safety practices and quality systems.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with production, R&D, and operations teams to support quality improvement and problem-solving.
- Provide technical input for process optimization.
- Assist in new product development or product changes by performing lab trials, stability testing, etc.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience: 3–5 years (or more) in a polymer / petrochemical lab setting, preferably working with PET or similar polymers.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of polymer testing methodologies (MFI, IV, DSC, TGA, FTIR, etc.).
- Familiarity with lab instrumentation and data analysis.
- Good understanding of petrochemical raw material properties.
