Fr G’s Hospital is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Lab Technician to join our laboratory team. The ideal candidate will perform sample collection, processing, routine testing, and quality checks to support accurate and timely patient diagnosis.
Key responsibilities
- Collect blood, urine, stool and other clinical specimens following standard procedures and infection-control precautions.
- Perform routine laboratory tests in Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Serology and Blood Bank as per SOPs.
- Prepare reagents, calibrate and operate automated analyzers and manual test equipment.
- Process and label samples, run controls, log results, and enter data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) / HIS accurately.
- Maintain quality control records; participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
- Clean, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instruments; arrange for preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Ensure proper storage, handling and disposal of biological and chemical waste.
- Maintain inventory of reagents, consumables and supplies; raise purchase requests in a timely manner.
- Assist clinicians and nurses with urgent sample collection and reporting.
- Prepare reports, maintain accurate test logs and follow documentation procedures for audits.
- Adhere to hospital policies, safety standards, and confidentiality of patient information.
Qualifications & experience
Essential
- Diploma/Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) or B.Sc. (Medical Laboratory Technology) from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in a clinical laboratory (freshers with strong training may be considered for junior roles).
- Knowledge of routine lab techniques, specimen handling, and basic equipment operation.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety, infection control, and quality control processes.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use LIS/HIS for test entry and result reporting.
Desirable
- Certification from a recognised board/state authority.
- Experience with automated hematology/biochemistry analyzers and microscopy.
- Experience working in a hospital setting and exposure to Blood Bank procedures.
- Good communication skills in English and the local language (Malayalam).
