An SR (Senior) Lab Technician in a hospital department typically holds a leadership or advanced technical role within the laboratory setting. Their primary responsibilities may include:
Responsibilities:
- Supervising Laboratory Operations: Ensuring that the laboratory runs smoothly, overseeing daily activities, and managing other lab technicians and staff.
- Performing Advanced Tests: Conducting specialized diagnostic tests on patient samples (blood, urine, tissues, etc.) and interpreting results.
- Quality Control: Ensuring all lab tests and equipment meet the hospital’s standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintaining Equipment: Ensuring that lab equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and functioning efficiently.
- Training and Mentoring: Training junior technicians and new staff, providing guidance on laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and equipment usage.
- Collaborating with Medical Staff: Discussing test results with doctors and other healthcare professionals to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Data Management: Documenting test results accurately and ensuring that patient data is handled securely and confidentially.
- Inventory Management: Ordering and managing supplies and reagents needed for laboratory operations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Typically, a diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field. BSC Qualification Preferred
- Experience: 8 to 10 years’ experience
- Technical Expertise: Familiarity with laboratory instruments, software, and the ability to troubleshoot equipment.
- Knowledge of Laboratory Safety Protocols: Understanding of infection control, biohazard management, and safety standards.
- Communication Skills: Ability to explain complex test results to non-specialists and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
