Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Department: Pathology / Diagnostic Services
Reporting To: Pathologist / Lab Manager
Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for collecting, processing, and analyzing patient samples to support accurate diagnosis and treatment. The role ensures adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and timely reporting of laboratory results.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Collection & Processing
- Collect blood, urine, stool, and other biological samples as per standard protocols.
- Label, handle, and store samples correctly to avoid contamination or mix-ups.
- Prepare samples for analysis (centrifugation, staining, etc.).
Laboratory Testing
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests as assigned.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment (analyzers, microscopes, centrifuges).
- Calibrate instruments and ensure proper functioning before use.
Quality & Safety Compliance
- Follow NABL / hospital quality standards and SOPs.
- Maintain cleanliness and infection control within the laboratory.
- Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation and disposal.
Documentation & Reporting
- Record test results accurately in registers / LIS / HIS systems.
- Assist in timely reporting of test results to clinicians.
- Maintain test logs, QC records, and equipment maintenance records.
Inventory & Equipment Management
- Monitor laboratory reagents, consumables, and stock levels.
- Report requirements for procurement in advance.
- Assist in preventive maintenance and breakdown reporting of equipment.
Patient Care & Coordination
- Handle patients politely and maintain confidentiality.
- Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and other departments for test requirements.
- Assist seniors during emergency or STAT investigations.
Qualifications & Skills
Educational Qualification
- DMLT / BMLT or equivalent qualification
- Registration with relevant council (if applicable)
Experience
- 1–3 years in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory (freshers may apply where applicable)
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety norms
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic computer skills (LIS/HIS preferred)
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Working Conditions
- Shift duties (including night / rotational shifts)
- Exposure to biological samples and laboratory equipment
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Fresher
Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
