Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP is seeking a 2–3 year Labor & Employment or Litigation Associate Attorney to join our Chicago office.

Sheppard Mullin is a global Am Law 100 full-service law firm with over 1,000 attorneys across 16 offices worldwide. The Chicago office currently has nearly 70 attorneys who practice in a variety of areas including Labor & Employment, Business Litigation, Corporate Transactions, Privacy & Cybersecurity, and more.

With more than 150 attorneys in the Labor & Employment group firmwide, Sheppard Mullin has one of the largest and most prestigious practices in the country. Our attorneys advise employers of all sizes—ranging from Fortune 100 companies to start-ups—in all aspects of employment and business-to-business disputes and litigation, investigations, advice and counseling, international employment and mobility, corporate diligence, and drafting employment and restrictive covenant agreements. We have considerable expertise in all matters affecting the workplace including restrictive covenants, trade secrets, agreement drafting, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, employment agreements, wage and hour and mass layoffs. The strength and depth of our practice is rooted in our ability to provide truly full-service labor and employment services.

Our team in Chicago continues to outperform and, as a result, continues to grow. We are currently recruiting for an outstanding associate with 2-3 years of employment, commercial and/or other complex litigation experience, preferably with additional experience with trade secret and restrictive covenant matters (including TROs and preliminary injunctions), and other complex disputes and litigations.

The ideal candidate should excel in the following areas:

  • Stellar writing skills
  • Efficient and strong researching skills
  • Knowledge of court filing procedures
  • Conducting complex fact investigation and analysis
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task various assignments and deadlines
  • Proactivity

Opportunities to draft pleadings and briefs, participate in expedited restrictive covenant and trade secret proceedings, support the labor and employment aspects of M&A transactions, communicate with clients, and interview witnesses and draft investigation reports, are all available within our diverse and deep team.

Resume, cover letter, writing sample (an original draft rather than a professor- and/or law partner-edited version) and law school transcript are required to apply. We will not be considering candidates for any remote roles at this time. Candidates must have strong academic background, high grades, strong work ethic and be admitted to and a member in good standing of the Illinois Bar. Federal clerkship experience is a plus.
