Laboratory Research Technician
The University of Pittsburgh's School of Public Health, Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology has a long and distinguished history as a leader in graduate education, transformative research, implementation science, and education in infectious diseases. A central component of our mission involves training the next generation of scientists and public health professionals to lead in the effort to reduce the impact of infectious diseases worldwide.
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Candidate should have experience working with laboratory mice, standard and quantitative real-time PCR assays, DNA extractions, gel electrophoresis, and managing large datasets. The candidate should have good organizational skills and experience managing students in the lab. Experience ordering supplies using PantherExpress system is favorable. Additionally, experience with writing reports and manuscript preparation are a plus.
Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time in laboratory setting. Light physical effort required.
