The Labour Room Nurse will provide high-quality maternal and neonatal care during all stages of childbirth—pre-delivery, delivery, and post-delivery. The role requires excellent clinical skills, quick decision-making, and compassionate patient care.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:1. Pre-Delivery Care
- Assess the condition of pregnant women upon admission.
- Monitor vital signs, fetal heart rate, and contraction patterns.
- Prepare patients for normal or complicated deliveries.
- Assist doctors in conducting examinations.
2. Delivery Assistance
- Assist obstetricians/gynecologists during normal deliveries and emergency procedures.
- Maintain sterility and prepare instruments and delivery kits.
- Support and guide mothers throughout the labour process.
3. Post-Delivery Care
- Monitor the mother's vital signs after delivery.
- Provide newborn care including initial assessment, APGAR scoring, and safe handling.
- Educate mothers on breastfeeding and postnatal hygiene.
4. Emergency Management
- Respond quickly to obstetric emergencies (eclampsia, PPH, fetal distress, etc.).
- Prepare for and assist in C-section cases if required.
- Administer medications as per doctor’s orders.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate patient records, labour notes, and delivery reports.
- Ensure proper handover during shift changes.
- Follow hospital standards and protocols.
6. Patient Care & Communication
- Provide emotional support to mothers and families.
- Communicate clearly with doctors, attendants, and support staff.
- Maintain a calm and reassuring environment in the labour room.
Required Qualifications:
- GNM / B.Sc Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Labour Room or Maternity Ward
- Registered Nurse with valid Nursing Council Registration
- Knowledge of labour room instruments, infection control, and emergency care
