POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides a variety of support activities relating to Land Records as well as assisting the public with boundary and ownership queries. The position is located in the Ada County Assessor's Office Land Records Division.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

A Land Records Technician I performs routine, moderately complex work under general supervision and according to pre-defined guidelines.

Essential Functions

  • Scans and indexes documents and maps;
  • Acts as front-facing contact for public, serving as cashier for customers purchasing maps and GIS data;
  • Answers general questions and provides information about policies, procedures and services;
  • Performs database queries and uses historical indexes to ascertain property ownership;
  • Interprets maps, surveys, plats, deeds and similar documents to obtain data and to determine property boundaries;
  • Operates multi-line telephone to receive and route calls and takes messages;
  • Assists the public with map and ownership queries;
  • Evaluates and processes simple deeds to determine ownership under the guidance of Land Records Technicians II & III;
  • Completes training to apply new knowledge in performance of technician tasks.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assists administrative staff in the receipt of homeowner’s exemption applications and property tax reduction applications;
  • Performs related functions as required.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Experience with property tax systems preferred;
  • Knowledge of modern office equipment, practices and procedures;
  • Knowledge of business English grammar, spelling and punctuation and math;
  • Knowledge of proper telephone and office etiquette;
  • Knowledge of the functioning of local government;
  • Knowledge of real estate transfer and financing practices preferred;
  • Skill in the operation of a personal computer;
  • Skill in the operation of Microsoft Office Suite and other office-related computer software;
  • Ability to draft correspondence, letters, memos;
  • Ability to do public records research using various databases and maps preferred;
  • Ability to analyze legal descriptions and title chains preferred;
  • Ability to understand laws, regulations, and policies related to ownership and boundaries preferred;
  • Ability to learn complex parcel database software, and parcel and document viewing software;
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must adhere to a professional code of ethics as a sworn Deputy Assessor.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;
  • May be required to lift up to 25 lbs.;
  • Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
