A Land Surveyor measures and maps land, providing accurate data for construction, infrastructure, and utility projects—including drainage, stormwater, and sewage systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct land and site surveys using GPS, total stations, and leveling instruments
- Determine property boundaries and prepare boundary and topographic reports
- Perform topographic and as-built surveys for infrastructure projects
- Support the design and construction of stormwater drainage systems (e.g., culverts, channels, manholes)
- Carry out surveys for sewage and wastewater networks (pipelines, lift stations, treatment plants)
- Set out alignments, levels, and gradients for drainage and sewer pipelines
- Verify pipe invert levels, slopes, and flow directions to ensure proper drainage
- Prepare and update maps, drawings, and profiles using CAD/GIS software
- Coordinate with civil engineers for grading, drainage layouts, and utility routing
- Monitor site progress and perform as-built surveys for stormwater and sewer works
- Ensure compliance with local authority standards and regulations for drainage and sewage systems
- Maintain survey records, reports, and documentation
Education & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field
- Professional certification/license (as required locally)
- Experience in infrastructure projects (roads, drainage, sewerage systems) preferred
- Familiarity with local municipality standards for stormwater and wastewater systems
Skills Needed
- Proficiency in surveying equipment (Total Station, GPS, Auto Level)
- Knowledge of drainage design principles (levels, gradients, flow)
- Experience with CAD and GIS software
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and utility layouts
- Attention to detail and accuracy in measurements
- Ability to work both on-site and in office environments
