Position: Landscape Designer

Hicks Nurseries, the premier retail and wholesale garden center on Long Island, is looking for Landscape Designer to join our team. With a proud legacy in the industry, Hicks offers a fast-paced, friendly environment where customers and team members alike love to grow.

Objective:

Support the landscape design and sales team by assisting with drafting, estimating, customer service, and various administrative tasks to help streamline and support the design process.

Essential Functions

1. Landscape Design & Estimating

  • Create landscape designs and accurate estimates as assigned
  • Analyze and plan project frameworks based on design concepts and specifications
  • Participate in site visits and project site work as necessary
  • Draft plans, elevations, sections, perspectives, and renderings
  • Prepare visual presentation materials, such as image books
  • Research permitting requirements and municipal codes
  • Complete design projects on time and within budget
  • Ensure design work adheres to company standards
  • Create internal project documentation and drawings
  • Propose process improvements to increase efficiency and quality

2. Administrative Support

  • Create and maintain documents using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Organize and file both digital and physical documents
  • Assist with CRM (Insightly) data entry, maintenance, and updates

3. Customer Service

  • Communicate with clients via phone, email, and in person per company standards
  • Respond to client inquiries in the absence of the Client Relationships Manager
  • Provide potential clients with service information
  • Assist walk-in customers in the Retail or Commercial Sales stores by answering questions or directing them appropriately
  • Education and Experience

    • Associate’s degree in landscape design or landscape architecture
    • Minimum of 1 year experience in a landscape design-related position
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Photoshop
  • Strong understanding of woody and herbaceous plant materials
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Work Requirements

  • Regular physical activity required, including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and grasping.
  • Fine motor skills requirements include keyboarding, using a computer mouse, and writing.
  • Must be able to lift 10 lbs. occasionally.
