Company Description

Native Landscapes & Gardens is dedicated to creating and maintaining natural landscapes that harmonize with the environment. We specialize in planting native species that are adapted to the local ecosystem, ensuring they thrive while promoting sustainability. Our mission is to protect the natural world, starting right in the backyards of our clients. By working with the local environment, we contribute to preserving our future and enhancing the beauty of the world around us.

Role Overview

We’re seeking a creative, technically skilled Landscape Designer who is passionate about native plants, ecological design, and crafting outdoor spaces with purpose. Based in Chagrin Falls, OH, this role blends conceptual design, client collaboration, and detailed planning to deliver high-quality, buildable designs for residential projects. You’ll lead the full design process—from site analysis and conceptual layouts to detailed planting plans, material selections, and estimating handoffs. Working closely with clients, project managers, and field teams, you’ll ensure design intent is translated seamlessly into construction. This role is ideal for a horticulturally knowledgeable, design-driven professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys seeing their work brought to life in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits, perform site analysis, and gather project requirements directly from clients.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed landscape designs using native and regionally adapted plant species, sustainable materials, and ecological design principles.
  • Create high-quality deliverables including concept sketches, 2D/3D plans, planting plans, construction documents, and material specifications.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Estimators to ensure designs are executable within budget, timeline, and site constraints.
  • Prepare and present design proposals to clients, incorporating revisions based on feedback.
  • Select plant material and hardscape elements aligned with ecological best practices and project goals.
  • Support field teams during installation to ensure design accuracy and resolve on-site questions as needed.
  • Maintain strong communication with clients throughout the design process to ensure satisfaction and build long-term relationships.
  • Stay current on native plant trends, ecological practices, and local regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of professional experience in landscape design. Native-focused or high-end residential design strongly preferred.
  • Strong horticultural knowledge, ecological planting design, and sustainable landscape practices.
  • Proficiency with design and drafting software such as AutoCAD, Vectorworks, SketchUp, or similar platforms; familiarity with LMN or Aspire a plus.
  • Ability to create clear, build-ready plans and communicate design intent effectively to both clients and field personnel.
  • Excellent visual communication skills, including rendering, graphic layout, and plant palette development.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills with the ability to translate complex design concepts into engaging presentations.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proactive and solutions-focused, with the ability to problem-solve in the field and adapt designs as needed.
  • Degree or certification in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, Horticulture, or a related field strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary plus performance incentives tied to design quality, efficiency, and project success.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement plan with company contribution.
  • Paid time off, holidays, and mileage reimbursement.
  • Opportunities for continuing education, certifications, and professional development.
